As their customers requested a wider range of electrical equipment, Atkinson expanded their business into new areas. Atkinson developed and provided their mining customers with rugged skid-mounted electrical equipment that could be hauled around the mining site. Another expansion to the product line occurred in 1970, when factory-fabricated modular electrical enclosures were provided to the petrochemical industry. Atkinson continued to adjust and expand their product offering and provided various enclosure solutions for a wide range of applications and industries. In 1993, Atkinson became part of AZZ incorporated of Fort Worth, Texas, a specialty electrical equipment manufacturer serving the global industrial, power generation, transmission and distribution markets as well as a leading provider of hot- dip galvanizing services to the steel fabrication market nationwide. Electrical Power Systems, Inc. (EPSI) had its beginnings as the Power Distribution Products Division (PDP) of Nelson Electric, which was founded in 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Nelson Electric Power Distribution Products Division was engaged in engineering and manufacturing of custom engineered low and medium voltage electrical switchgear, motor control centers, starters and switches. This custom equipment was used by industrial and utility users to distribute and control electric power. In 1960, the company was the first to develop the concept and produce an integrated factory fabricated modular power distribution center, branded as the Nelson “Powerhouse”. In 1986, Nelson sold the PDP division to a group of employees and investors who formed Electrical Power Systems, Inc. The manufacture of electrical equipment enclosures along with low and medium voltage switchgear remains as EPSI’s core business today. In 2001, EPSI was purchased by AZZ incorporated. Recognizing the synergy between Atkinson and EPSI, AZZ merged the two operations in 2003 forming AZZ | Atkinson- EPSI. Operating as one, Atkinson-EPSI is able to offer a wide range of products and a  level of flexibility that is unmatched by the competition. Our two industry leading facilities offer solutions ranging from an empty enclosure to a custom engineered, fully integrated, turn-key solution complete with AZZ or customer furnished equipment. As through our history, we continue to adjust and adapt our products to meet the changing needs of our customers. To address these special applications we also offer a range of specialty enclosures including units without a floor, two story and blast- resistant enclosures.   AZZ | ATKINSON - EPSI
